The Monuments Men (2014)

File:The Monuments Men poster.jpgThe Monuments Men is a historical film loosely based on a real life group of soldiers called "Monuments Men" in World War II.  Their mission was to protect art from the Nazi's, so that a generation of European culture would not be forgotten.  It stars George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray and many other actors in a pretty large ensemble.

STORY
In the 1940s during WWII, Nazi soldier's were stealing art from galleries across Europe.  An art scholar from the United States, named Frank Stokes(Clooney) brings this to the attention of President F.D.R.  With permission he assembles a team of art scholars to come with him to the front lines to protect art from being destroyed, and to recover stolen art.  The Monuments Men, must overcome the fact that none of them are typical soldiers, and that they are old men not used to battle.  This is a Comedy.

CONTENT
There is frequent language in this film.  The language could of been in a PG film, if it wasn't so frequent.  Some characters die, there's shooting, although not much.  Smoking is seen in every scene, but that is how it was in 1945, so I'm not sure why that was included in the descriptor for the PG-13 rating.

CONCLUSION
This is a funny film, and tells the story of average Joe's doing what right.  The main problem for me was the amount of language, if it didn't have this, it would be family friendly.  The characters could have been more developed (especially the one's who die).  It's not the best film in the world, but it's a fun watch.

Sly 2: Band of Thieves

Sly 2 - Band of Thieves CoverartOne of my first reviews, and favorite games was Sly Cooper and the Thievius RaccoonusI am now going to review the sequel, Sly 2: Band of Thieves.  Sly 2 continues the story of Sly Cooper, a master raccoon thief, who only steals from other thieves.

STORY
A while after the events of Sly 1, The Cooper Gang discovers that Clockwerk(antagonist from prior game) can come back if the pieces of his armor are re-assembled.  Gathering up information on the whereabouts of the armor, they find that a Black Market circle called the "Klaww Gang" has split the pieces up amongst its members.  The Gang then embarks on the perilous task of sneaking and snooping to steal the armor, and to stop it from getting in the wrong hands.

GAMEPLAY
So some elements of the game remain the same as the previous title.  There are now 8 worlds instead of 5.  The hubs have been made larger and more of a freeroam area, this is also where the collectible bottles are located.  The biggest addition is the ability to play as Bently the Turtle, and Murray the Hippo.  They have their own missions required to win the game.  Bently uses bombs and his crossbow to take out bad guys before he gets up to them.  Murray uses his brute strength, not stealth to get the bad guys.  Sly still uses stealth and climbing as his main form of gameplay, although some of the skills he acquired in Sly 1 are not present.  Buying new abilities is through the use of "thiefnet" a website used to sell loot(collectibles from the free roam world), buy gadgets and abilities.  Overall having played the original series and being in the process of playing Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, this is my favorite of the series.

GRAPHICS
Cell shaded, cartoon graphics make this look like a playable cartoon and is really cool looking.  In my personal opinion cartoon styled games like this or Lego Batman don't need to have PS3/PS4 graphics to be awesome, but for those of yall who may have ditched your PS2 a few years ago, or never had one but have a PS3, an HD version on a single Disc with the other 2 Games has been released, with trophy support.  A download of each single game(at higher cost) is available through the PSN.

CONTENT
Not that bad, there is some flirting between Sly and Inspector Fox.
Cartoon violence is present, but is similar to that of Tom and Jerry cartoons of yesteryear.  Stealing/Thievery is the main point of the game, but Sly only steals from other thieves because he sees stealing from ordinary people as not being honorable.
This game is rated E, and I would say that age 6-7 could play this with no problem.

CONCLUSION
This is quite a fun game, despite its flaws.  Another thing is length, this is the longest game of the PS2 trilogy, but is kind of short compared to many newer games.
If your looking for a game to binge on for the weekend, or you just want to play games that you missed from the ps2 era, download it from the PSN or find a copy for PS2.
Overall I say...

UPCOMING...The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Who am I? You sure you want to know? The story of my life is not for the faint of heart. If somebody told you it was a happy tale, if somebody said I was just your average guy, not a care in the world... somebody lied....
WRONG MOVIE

So for those of you who don't know, the line I opened with was the opening line of 2002s Spider-Man.  That movie spawned 2 sequels, but the fourth film was canceled.  The series was rebooted in 2012 as "The Amazing Spider-Man", the same title of the comic book that the webhead starred in.

Spider-Man is the story of teenage Peter Parker who was bitten by a radioactive spider, and gains extraordinary powers.  After letting a crook that he could of stopped escape,  that same crook murders his Uncle Ben.  Peter then develops a masked alter ego "Spider-Man" to track down the crook, but then decides to use his powers to stop crime in the city of New York.

The newest film in the franchise "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", to be released May 2 2014, has made me speculate about what I think will happen.

1.Gwen will Die
It makes perfect sense, in the original stories Captain Stacy died a few issues prior to her. He died in the previous film.  Also the Green Goblin is who killed her in the original stories(if you don't count spidey's web).  He is debuting in this film.

2. Norman Osborne is not Gobby
yep, this time around Harry is the Goblin, though a leaked trailer said that Norman had     died and left everything to Harry.  I would say this will take place sometime in the first act.

3. A slew of Villains
If you watch the trailer (which i have below) Green Goblin, Rhino, Electro, Vulture and   Doctor Octopus, are all teased.  I've also heard that venom was mentioned on one of the   computer panels.  This is too many villains for the second film of the series.  The originals films introduced 5 villains in 3 movies.  Here were introducing/teasing 7 villains in 2 movies.

4. Ben's Killer
I think that the plot of Peter catching Uncle Ben's Killer might play over into this film. The original film focused maybe 15 minutes on this subject and resolved it, In The Amazing Spider-Man it focused 20 or so minutes and then dropped the subject, probably because this was an old plot line, and they wanted to focus on the new stuff they added to the story.  So It's reasonable to think that this will be touched on at least in the upcoming film.

5. Richard and Mary Parker's death
So in the original movies, Richard and Mary Parker are not mentioned.
In the newer films they have a lot more to do with the story.  From watching the trailer, plus comments in the first film, i think that this will be another one of he major plots for this film.

I personally can't wait for this new film to come out, and see how everything plays out.  Will you guys go to see it?  Do you think that there's too many villains?  Comment your thoughts below!

The Marvel Effect...

Every few months, I get a notion to go to the movies.  Usually it's a action film, or a comedy, and sometimes a cartoon.  But more often than not, I go to see a comic book film.  Now if your into these types of film's than you've probably heard of the Avengers.
The Avengers series encompasses Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and soon, Ant-Man.  Now in prior Comic book film franchises, Like Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and X-Men were all self contained and the films in the series were all on the same characters in the prior film. Most of all, they all had different production teams.  Starting with Iron Man, all of the avengers films play in and out one another and make a mega story.  The thing is, Marvel is producing a film every 6 months for this franchise.  With the older Franchises, they all had different production teams, studios and release schedules, but you could expect at least 1 marvel film per year.  Warner Bros. wants to copy the same format as the Avengers to make a justice league film, Sony wants to copy this to make a bigger set of Spider-Man Films and Fox is copying this format to combine Fantastic Four and X-Men, and Disney with Star Wars.  The Idea of a shared film universe was basically introduced with the Avengers, but now all the other studios are going to copy this format, once this happens they'll be cranking out the films as fast as they come, and the story value will go down, Why? because their all going to run out of ideas on that kind release schedule.  My guess is that after all these franchises blossom, we will see 5 or 6 films per year from these MAJOR franchises, plus whatever Transformers, Star Trek, Jurassic Park, and Planet of the Apes might come up with.
But, the only film in the MCU that I didn't care too much for was Iron Man 2.  So I could be wrong, but personally I would rather have an amazing film, than a really crappy FX showcase.  But really It's up to you... the fans to decide which films to make a billion dollar grossing picture.
