Star Wars: The Asteroid Field

This is a video game I programmed using scratch when I was 11.  The original version lacked a health bar, points and sound effects.  6 years later, I've finally made a playable version.  #Goals

CONTROLS:
Up Arrow-Move Up
Down Arrow-Move Down

Happy May 4th!

It's the best day of the year! Nope, not Christmas, but May the 4th, aka Star Wars Day!

In 1977, George Lucas created a media franchise that would take the would by storm.  39 years later it's still going strong.  Last December "Star Wars: Episode VII-The Force Awakens" was released to cinemas, and next Decemeber the first anthology film "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will be released.

Video Games are the specialty here at VGTR, and thankfully Star Wars has been successfully transferred to the gaming world.  EA's game "Star Wars: Battlefront", received a huge update today, including many game balancing tweaks and bug fixes.  Also, a new star card has launched through the Hutt contracts, and any user that logs in will receive 4,444 credits, and well as 2x XPs in every match.  For some reason, if you haven't picked Battlefront up, it's 50% off today on the PlayStation Store, Steam and Xbox Marketplace.  And in case your wondering, my PSN username is bigbj12, look me up!

Additionally, if your feeling down, today is a great day to watch any episode in the saga and wear your Jedi robe (I'm in mine :).  If your a fan of Star Wars that wants to go shopping, most major retailers have some kind of Star Wars related sale happening, so be sure to check your local listings.

Thanks for coming to VGTR, please subscribe for more awesome updates and to save yourself from the impending zombie apocalypse.  May the fourth be with you...ALWAYS!

Broforce

It's been a really long time since I last wrote a review, here goes nothing.

STORY
The video game known as 'Broforce' has a loose overarching narrative similar to "The Expendables."  There's a group of elite operatives called the "Bros" who are bent on ridding the world of terrorism.  During their crusade, the Xenomorph species  from the movie "Alien" begin to invade earth, leading the "Bros" to mount a final offensive to save the planet, and make America great again.

I'm not joking.^^^

GAMEPLAY
The only way to describe this game is Super Mario meets Metroid meets Terraria meets 80's Action Movies.  You play as one of the aforementioned "Bros", which include Brommando, Mr. Anderbro, Rambro, DoubleBro Seven and other action film parodies.  Levels are 100% destructible, and have a ton of enemies, obstacles and POW's to rescue.  When a POW is rescued, a life is gained and the current "Bro" changes.  This game has a lot of action and shooting, but is a 2D sidescrollers, akin to Super Mario.  A lot of Platforming happens throughout the game, and is difficult even for the more seasoned platform gamer.
My favorite thing about this game is you finish a level.  The Devil awaits at the top of a hill, you reach the summit guns ablaze, blow him to smitherines, raise an American flag, and escape hanging from a helicopter ladder while the ground around you explodes.

This is the stuff of legend.

GRAPHICS
'Broforce' utilizes a pixel based 2D world.  It looks very similar to an early 90s game for the Super Nintendo, and is supprisingly bright and colorful.  Red is the most common on screen color. ;)

CONTENT
This is where the article gets entertaining.  Broforce, even though it has the asthstetic of a game from the 80s, is rated M.  Like M, for Mature 17+.  Why? You might ask.  2 words, Blood and Gore.  Even though Broforce utilizes pixel based graphics, it takes full use of the processor inside the PS4 to animate the exploding, decapitation and dismemberment of enemies.  Even though it looks like a cartoon, it still has accompanying sound effects, which can be quite gross.  There is no spoken dialogue but at certain times, profanity may appear in text on the screen.

SUMMARY
PlayStation Plus is a wonderful thing, it lets you play online, and gives you games you never would have ever thought to try.  Broforce was one of these for me, I downloaded it not knowing what was in store.  It's ended up becoming one of my favorite games, and has changed my perspective on gaming in general.  You don't need the fanciest graphics or deep story to make a game great, you need fun gameplay.  That's exactly what 'Broforce' has, and a lot of it.  If you missed it on PS Plus, it's a quite inexpensive game, and I recommend it to anyone looking for fun.
